Women’s nine holes Pinehurst competition was won by Janice McKenzie and Jeanette Dodds 49-12-37 and the runner’s up, Sandra Toone and Sally Stone scored 51-12-39.
At the SWGA committee members day held at East Geelong Golf Club, Apollo Bay was represented by Don Wagstaff, Captain, John Nankervis, vice captain and Richard Stone, committee, and were placed in the top six teams.
The chicken run win was shared by David Hand and Richard Stone with 19 points The women’s Otway pennant at Lorne was won by Apollo Bay who defeated Clifton Springs 4-1, which now places Apollo Bay second on the ladder.
Women’s stroke competition and monthly medal. Grade 0-29 was won by Helen Stevens 44-26-68 and runner-up Adele Rowarth, on a count-back from Sandra Toone had 98-29-69. In B Grade, Jean Hansen won with 110-44-66, which also netted her the monthly medal, Jean’s first! The runner-up who lost on a count-back to Jean ,was Martha Macintyre. The A grade putting was a tie between Sandra Toone and Stacey Thomas with 30 putts, and Cheryle Polgeest won the putting for B Grade with 30 putts.
Men’s 4BBB Stableford competition, was won by Bill Buckley and Guy Permazel 44 points, while the runners-up on a count-back from Don O’Meara and Alan Rowarth, were Geoff Vesey and Peter Forbes with 43 points. Geoff Vesey had nearest the pin on 1/10 as did Guy Permazel in B Grade and Bob Bedson claimed NTP on 9/18 hole.
Women’s 9 hole Stableford competition. Janice McKenzie won in A Grade with 17 points and Cheryle Polgeest was runner-up with 14 points on a count-back from Dawn Thomas. In B Grade, Maureen Vesey won with 21 points, runner-up on a count-back from Maureen was Jeanette Dodds. Next best, Joy Russ had 19 points. Nearest the pin was Janice McKenzie.
Men’s Stroke and Monthly Medal one grade, was won by Tony Campbell, who also won the monthly medal with 89/63 and with 81/64, Don O’Meara was runner-up on a count-back from Manuel Quintana. Richard Stone was nearest the pin on 1/10 hole.
The mixed event was cancelled due to extreme temperature.
The chicken run winner was Neil Hinds. The women’s Otway pennant at Colac was cancelled due to extreme temperature.
Fourth round of the women’s Summer Cup where Stacey Thomas in A Grade scored a 78/62 to win on a count-back from Margaret Smith 83/62. In B Grade, Caroline Wren tore up the course with a 96/58 to win and runner-up Maureen Vesey scored 109/71 nett. Putting A Grade: Vicki Hannah 26 and B Grade: Maureen Vesey on a count-back from Caroline Wren had 30 putts. The winners of the Summer Cup: 0-29, A Grade, Vicki Hannah 201 nett and runner- up Margaret Smith 204 nett, while in B Grade 30-45 was Caroline Wren 197 nett and runner-up Faith Morrissy 207 nett.
