Men’s 18 hole stroke competition and monthly medal. In A Grade, Craig McKenzie was the winner with 70/61 and runner-up Colin Coleman scoring 74/63. In B Grade Lance Thomas won with 84/57 which also netted him the monthly medal. Runner-up Rod Beecroft scored 79/60. Nearest the pin 1st/10th in A grade was Peter Collard and for B Grade Bewley Marlow was closest. On 9th/18th Geoff Vesey was the only contender.
Was official opening day with an 18 hole mixed Pinehurst competition. Neil and Di Hinds were the winners with nett 60 5/8 and the runners-up with 63 5/8 were Janice and Graham McKenzie. Best Gross score winners with 75, were Craig McKenzie and Vicki Hannah. Nearest the Pin 1st/10th was Jean Hansen for the women and Graham McKenzie for the men. On 9th/18th hole, Vicki Hannah had the closest women’s shot and Brian McKenzie was the most accurate of the men players.
Apollo Bay women hosted the Otway Pennant.
The chicken run this week was won by Alex Baird with 21 points and Brian McKenzie with 19 points.
Earlier in the week three women players from Apollo Bay won the Barwon Heads Bowl with 110 points. Congratulations to Vicki Hannah, who with 40 points also won the individual trophy for the day, Lyn Box with 37 points and Jill Fowler with 33 points. Well done girls!
Final round of the women’s Summer Cup produced the following results: 0-27 Janice McKenzie scored 86-25-61 to win and runner-up Norma Begely had 95-22-73. In the 28-45 division, Sami Oguzhan won with 102-35-67 on a count-back from runner-up Jan Shaw who scored 101-34-67. The putting was won in A grade by Janice McKenzie, with 29 putts and in B Grade Sami Oguzhan won with 29 putts.
The Summer Cup winner in A Grade was Janice McKenzie with 203. Runner-up Jill Fowler scored 206. In B Grade the Summer cup winner Faith Morrissy scored 201 and runner-up Jan Shaw pipped Adele Rowarth on a count-back with 208.
Two man Ambrose competition resulted in a win for M. Lavery and D Wagstaff with 61 ¼ nett. Runners-up were B. McKenzie and R. Stone with 62 nett. A Grade Nearest the pin 1st/10th was Geoff Vesey and John Nankervis was nearest for B Grade.
The women’s 9 hole stableford competition was won by Jeanette Dodds with 17 points and Helen Healy, who has just re-started golf recently, was runner-up with 16 points.
The 4th round of the Summer Cup in A Grade Tim McClelland won with nett 63 and runner-up was Peter Collard who scored a nett 65. B
Grade Winner was Bill Buckley with nett 56, and with 60 nett Ray Matthews was runner-up. Don O’Meara had nearest the pins on both 1st and 18th holes. Alan Rowarth scored nearest the pin on 1st/10th for B Grade. The Summer Cup winners were Brian McKenzie and Ray Matthews.
Apollo Bay women played Otway Pennant at Colac against Anglesea. The match was squared with 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw. Our first time pennant player Faith Morrissy won on the 18th hole -2 up. Sandra Toone comfortably won her match 7/6. Adele Rowarth lost on the 16th hole 3/2 and Jan Shaw who hasn’t played pennant for many years, lost 2 down on the 18th hole. Jean Hansen squared her match. Otway pennant on Friday 23rd February, where Apollo Bay played Clifton Springs at Anglesea in humid weather, Apollo Bay team lost 3/2. Martha Macintyre won, 2 up, Adele Rowarth and Jean Hansen squared their games, and Lyn Box and Sandra Toone lost in close matches.
Third round of the women’s Summer Cup produced the following results: 0-27 Adele Rowarth scored 98-27-71 to win and runner-up Sandra Kent had 92-20-72. In the 28-45 division, Faith Morrissy won with 103-38-65, lining up with the winners 3 weeks in a row! Jan Shaw was runner-up scoring 104-34-70. The putting was won in A grade by Adele Rowarth, with 28 putts and in B Grade Jeanette Dodds won with 29 putts.
Final Round of the men’s 18 hole 4 week stableford competition. Winner in A Grade was Chris Hansen with 41 points and with 39 points, Richard Stone was again runner-up. While Don Wagstaff had nearest the pin on 1st/10th- Chris Hansen conquered the 9th/18th. In B Grade Ray Matthews won another round with 34 points on a count-back from Bill Buckley, who was runner-up. Bruce Amery was the most accurate on 1st/10th for B. Grade. The 4 week winners, who tied on 109 points, were Richard Stone and Don O’Meara.
