Most women wore something green to play in an 18 hole Irish 3 Ball competition. The winners had a fantastic score of 92 points. The team consisted of Janice McKenzie, Sami Oguzhan and Jeanette Dodds. Sami Oguzhan had a great day and scored 45 of the team’s 92 points. Helen Stevens, Faith Morrissy and Jean Hansen had 85 points to be runners up.
Twenty women took part in an 18 hole Pinehurst competition. The winning pair were Maureen Vesey and Sally Stone with 46-13½-32½ and the runners up were Vicky Hannah and Marlene Verey who scored 44-9½=34½. Martha Macintyre and Jeanette Dodds won the putting with 14 putts on a countback from Debbie Biggs and Nelly O’Meara.
The women played an 18 hole stroke round in beautiful sunshine. The A grade winner, Stacey Thomas finished with an 88-15-73 with runner-up Janice McKenzie scoring 97-24-73. In B grade there was also a count-back with the winner Jeanette Dodds scoring 103-36-67, and runner-up Faith Morrissy 103-36-67. Jeanette Dodds won the monthly medal in a play-off with Faith Morrissy. The best gross score for the day went to Stacey Thomas with 88. Putting in A Grade was won by Janice McKenzie on a count-back from Marg Smith 32 putts. Pat Fitzpatrick won the putting for B grade with 31 putts.
The women’s 9 hole stableford competition was won by Janice McKenzie in A grade with 20 points and runner-up Norma Begely had 17 points. B Grade’s Jeanette Dodds had 21 points to win in that grade, followed by Sami Oguzhan on a count-back from Sally Stone and Maureen Vesey with 17 points..
Was official opening day with an 18 hole mixed Pinehurst competition. Neil and Di Hinds were the winners with nett 60 5/8 and the runners-up with 63 5/8 were Janice and Graham McKenzie. Best Gross score winners with 75, were Craig McKenzie and Vicki Hannah. Nearest the Pin 1st/10th was Jean Hansen for the women and Graham McKenzie for the men. On 9th/18th hole, Vicki Hannah had the closest women’s shot and Brian McKenzie was the most accurate of the men players.
Apollo Bay women hosted the Otway Pennant.
The chicken run this week was won by Alex Baird with 21 points and Brian McKenzie with 19 points.
Earlier in the week three women players from Apollo Bay won the Barwon Heads Bowl with 110 points. Congratulations to Vicki Hannah, who with 40 points also won the individual trophy for the day, Lyn Box with 37 points and Jill Fowler with 33 points. Well done girls!
Final round of the women’s Summer Cup produced the following results: 0-27 Janice McKenzie scored 86-25-61 to win and runner-up Norma Begely had 95-22-73. In the 28-45 division, Sami Oguzhan won with 102-35-67 on a count-back from runner-up Jan Shaw who scored 101-34-67. The putting was won in A grade by Janice McKenzie, with 29 putts and in B Grade Sami Oguzhan won with 29 putts.
The Summer Cup winner in A Grade was Janice McKenzie with 203. Runner-up Jill Fowler scored 206. In B Grade the Summer cup winner Faith Morrissy scored 201 and runner-up Jan Shaw pipped Adele Rowarth on a count-back with 208.
The women’s 9 hole stableford competition was won by Jeanette Dodds with 17 points and Helen Healy, who has just re-started golf recently, was runner-up with 16 points.
Apollo Bay women played Otway Pennant at Colac against Anglesea. The match was squared with 2 wins, 2 losses and a draw. Our first time pennant player Faith Morrissy won on the 18th hole -2 up. Sandra Toone comfortably won her match 7/6. Adele Rowarth lost on the 16th hole 3/2 and Jan Shaw who hasn’t played pennant for many years, lost 2 down on the 18th hole. Jean Hansen squared her match. Otway pennant on Friday 23rd February, where Apollo Bay played Clifton Springs at Anglesea in humid weather, Apollo Bay team lost 3/2. Martha Macintyre won, 2 up, Adele Rowarth and Jean Hansen squared their games, and Lyn Box and Sandra Toone lost in close matches.
Third round of the women’s Summer Cup produced the following results: 0-27 Adele Rowarth scored 98-27-71 to win and runner-up Sandra Kent had 92-20-72. In the 28-45 division, Faith Morrissy won with 103-38-65, lining up with the winners 3 weeks in a row! Jan Shaw was runner-up scoring 104-34-70. The putting was won in A grade by Adele Rowarth, with 28 putts and in B Grade Jeanette Dodds won with 29 putts.
