18 holes stroke competition saw Margaret Smith play to her handicap to win A Grade 88/68 and the runner up was Janice McKenzie with 97/71. Janice also won the A grade putting with 28 putts. In B grade Jan Shaw won with 103/71 and Sami Oguzhan was runner up with 108/73. Jeanette Dodds had 30 putts to win B grade putting. Margaret Smith scooped the pool by winning the Monthly Medal, best gross, and the first round of the Silverspoon and Mona McLeod brooch.
Five of our women headed to Ocean Grove to play in the Otway Pennant Shield Day. Martha Macintyre won the best score of the day with 34 stablepoints on a countback from Suzanne Neill from Lorne. Lyn Box had a wonderful shot to win the nearest the pin on the 1 st , only to miss getting a hole in one by 7 cms. Lorne won the shield and Apollo Bay had the next best team score.
The women played a team game of Gentsomes. The winning team were Nelly O’meara and Dawn Thomas with 36 points. Vicki Hannah and Marie Murnane were runners up with 33 points and the next best team were Sami Oguzhan and Marlene Verey with 29 points.
Women’s Pinehurst competition was won by Kerryn Wagstaff and Sandra Toone with 92-19 1/8 -72 7/8, and runners-up Stacey Thomas and Janice McKenzie had 90-15¾-74¼. The putting competition awarded to players who had not won a trophy went to Jill Fowler and Marie Murnane with 30 putts.
The women’s SWGA pennant Division 5 at Lara: Clifton Springs defeated Apollo Bay 3/2 in a very close result.
Women’s 9 holes 2-person Ambrose was abandoned due to heavy rain.
Women’s stableford competition was won by Dawn Thomas with 35 points and runner-up Vicki , had 29 points, as did the next best, Maureen Vesey. The women’s Otway pennant lost the match at Torquay, and the flag for the season was won by Lorne.
Women’s 9 holes stroke competition 0-35 was won by Cheryle Polgeest with 49-17-32 and the runner-up Janice McKenzie had 49-13-36. In 36-45 division Jeanette Dodds won with 50-19-31 with Marlene Verey, playing her first game for some time was runner-up with 56-18½-37½. Putting overall was Vicki Hannah with 15 putts.
Betty Kernot scratch foursomes Apollo Bay representatives Stacey Thomas and Vicki Hannah lost on the 15 th hole and Jill Fowler and Margaret Smith lost on the 19 th hole. The women’s Otway pennant at Torquay was won by Anglesea 4-1 to Apollo Bay.
Women’s stableford competition Grade 0-29 was won by Dawn Thomas with 37 points and runner-up Sandra Toone, had 38 points. In B Grade, Jeanette Dodds, on a count-back from Faith Morrissy who was runner-up, won with 35 points.
Women’s nine holes Pinehurst competition was won by Janice McKenzie and Jeanette Dodds 49-12-37 and the runner’s up, Sandra Toone and Sally Stone scored 51-12-39.
