First round of the women’s Summer Cup, which resulted in a win for Vicki Hannah with 84-15-69. Runner-up on a count-back from Janice McKenzie, was Adele Rowarth with 99-29-70. The B Grade winner was Caroline Wren with 107-39-68 and runner-up was Sami Oguzhan with 105-36-69. 31 Putts was a winning score for Vicki Hannah in A grade while Jeanette Dodds in B Grade had 32 putts.
Women’s 9 hole stroke round 0-30 handicap winner was Dawn Thomas 46-14½-31½ with runner-up Margaret Smith scoring 43-10½-32½. 31-45 handicap winner, was Sami Oguzhan 50-18-32. Runner-up Jeanette Dodds scored 52-19-33. Putting A grade was won by Sandra Toone with 14 putts and in B Grade, Sally Cannon won with 16 putts on a count-back from Sally Stone.
It was opening Day for the women golfers. The 1 st putt for the season honour went to Jill Fowler for winning the SWGA B grade championship in 2018. The competition to follow was an 18 hole 3-person Ambrose, played in very blustery conditions with a smattering of rain. The winning team, comprising of Margaret Smith, Shirley Amery and Joycie Henderson scored 71-15½ -55 ½ and the runners-up were Sandra Toone, Jeanette Dodds and Jan Shaw and Caroline Wren with 78-17¼-60¾. The team with the least putts, 23, was Sandra Kent, Sami Oguzhan and Marie Murnane.
The women held their Christmas Break-up Dinner where yearly competition results were announced. Thursdays’ A Grade eclectic was won by Janice McKenzie 68-18 ½-84 ½ -49 ½ and in B Grade Jan Shaw had 75-16-59 nett. Mondays” A grade eclectic was also won by Janice McKenzie with 27 nett, and in B Grade Jeanette Dodds achieved a 31 ½ nett. Thursdays’ putting was won by Janice McKenzie with 85 putts and Mondays’ putting was won by Vicki Hannah with 41. Birdies for the season were won by Vicki Hannah with 10, Gobblers won by Janice McKenzie with 9 and Pars (35-45 handicap), Caroline Wren won with 13. All other results were published at the time of the competition.
The women played a nine- hole Ambrose competition dressed in many and varied Halloween costumes for their closing day this year, celebrating with lunch and gift giving afterwards. The winning team of Martha Macintyre, Sami Oguzhan, and Stacey Thomas scored 39-7-32. Runners-up with 41-8-33 were Vicki Hannah, Jan Shaw and Joycie Henderson. The putting trophies, awarded for the least number of putts to a team who hadn’t yet received a trophy was Kerryn Wagstaff, Margaret Smith and Joy Russ with 13 putts.
Women’s teams playing match play for either the Captain or the President resulted in a win for the President’s team 5/0. On Monday 26 th November Apollo Bay women players were again successful, this time playing at Beeac. Jan Shaw, Vicki Hannah and Sandra Toone brought home the Joyce Simpkin Bowl. We are very proud of the members of our small club who travel to districts events and we congratulate them on their success.
Women’s 27 hole day sponsored generously by Apollo Bay Bakery, who also sponsor the junior players on a Friday each week. The winner of the 27- hole nett event was Janice McKenzie with 96 nett and in B Grade this was won by Caroline Wren with 103½ nett. Janice and Caroline also won the putting event in their respective grades with 41 and 47 putts. The 27- hole gross event was won by Vicki Hannah in A grade, with 130 gross, whilst Faith Morrissy won B grade with 157 gross. 18 holes nett in A grade saw Dawn Thomas win with a 70 nett and in B grade Jeanette Dodds had a win with 75 nett. The yearly Medal of Medallist event was won by Janice McKenzie with 64 nett. The only player close to the pin was Norma Begely.
Women’s 9 holes stroke winner in A Grade was Janice McKenzie with 42-14-28. Runner-up A grade was Norma Begely 45-12½ -32½. In B grade, Caroline Wren was the winner 52-19½-32½, on a count-back from Cheryle Polgeest 49-16 ½ -32 ½. Putting overall was won by Dawn Thomas with 16 putts.
Women’s 18- hole 2-person Ambrose competition was held in pleasant weather. Cheryle Polgeest and Faith Morrissy were the winners with 67 nett. Runners-up on a count-back from Dawn Thomas and Sami Oguzhan, were Joycie Henderson and Janice McKenzie with 69 ¾ nett. The putting competition was won by Helen Stevens and Caroline Wren with 22.
9- hole women’s competition all par 3 holes. The winner in A grade was Janice McKenzie with 39-14-25 and runner-up was Dawn Thomas who scored 41-14½- 25½. The B grade winner was Debbie Coghlan 44-20-24 and runner-up Nelly O’Meara had 48- 22½ – 25½. The putting competition was won by Kerryn Wagstaff with 15 putts.
