Coastal Challenge held at Peterborough resulted in a win for Peterborough 286 defeating Apollo Bay 257. Good scores: Richard Stone 36, Colin Coleman 34, Geoff Vesey 34 and Don Wagstaff 31 who lost on a count-back. Six women players participated with the best score from Kerryn Wagstaff who lost on a count-back 31.
Mixed event 4BBB stableford with dinner to follow was cancelled.
Round 1 of the women’s club championships was played under very trying conditions with wind gusts playing havoc, particularly whilst putting. The eventual outcome for the daily competition, was a win in A Grade for Sandra Toone with 79 nett and runner-up Vicki Hannah scoring 80 nett. In B Grade, Sami Oguzhan had 78 nett, with runner-up Cheryle Polgeest on 80 nett. Cheryle also won the putting for B Grade 32 putts and Stacey Thomas had the least putts in A Grade with 35. This was also a fund raising day for Breast Cancer and the 17 entrants all wearing pink, plus some donations from the men players raised $325.00.
Men’s 4-week Stableford Competition Round 1: A Grade winner Bob Bedson won on a count-back from runner-up Geoff Vesey with 36
points. R/up was also a count-back from Bernie Coller and Richard Stone. Geoff Vesey had nearest the pin on 1 st /10 th hole. In B Grade Brian McKenzie scored 36 points to win and Graham McKenzie was runner-up with 33 points. John Nankervis was the closest to the flag on
1 st /10 th hole.
Women’s 9 hole Ambrose with a friend was won by Marg Smith and Joy Russ 43-8 1/8 -34 7/8 Runners-up Vicki Hannah and Jean Hansen scored 43- 6 7/8 -36 1/8 . Dawn Thomas and Sally Stone won the putting with 13 putts.
Final Round of the Men’s Championships. The daily winner in A Grade was Don Wagstaff 77/66 and the runner-up Alistair McKenzie scored 75/67. B Grade winner, John Nankervis scored 83/63 which also gained him the veteran’s trophy on a count-back from Brian McKenzie. The 2019 Club Champion was Darren Gill who, on 232 was one stroke ahead of runner-up Andrew Hill, Richard Stone was awarded the B Grade Championship with 244 and Guy Permazel was the runner-up on 266.The Laurie Gunn Trophy was awarded to Richard Stone for his winning nett score of 194. Richard also had a nearest the pin on 1 st /10 th for A Grade and Don Wagstaff for his shot on the 9 th /18 th . John Nankervis was the most accurate for B Grade on 1 st /10 th and 9 th /18 th .
9 holes Mixed event stableford was cancelled because of bad weather.
The second and as voted, the final round of the Women’s 18 holes Stableford Championship was jointly won by Faith Morrissy and Stacey Thomas with 59 points each. The daily competition winner was 0-20 Sandra Toone 28 points with Helen Stevens the runner-up on a count-back from Kerryn Wagstaff with 27 points. 30-45 winner was Caroline Wren with 31 points on a count-back from Faith Morrissy. Nearest the Pin was Kerryn Wagstaff.
Men’s 18 holes Stroke
Special Rules: A Grade was won by Ian Richardson with 61 nett on a count-back from runner-up Bernie Coller. Bernie also had nearest the pin on 1 st /10 th hole. B Grade winner was Ray Matthews with nett 59 and Brian McKenzie who scored 59 nett was the runner up. Damian Ross was nearest the pin in B Grade on 1 st /10 th hole.
Women’s 9 Holes Stroke A grade winner Janice McKenzie scored 49-1336 and runner-up Martha Macintyre scored 53-16-37. The B grade Winner Jeanette Dodds had 55-18-37 and runner-up Sami Oguzhan scored 56-17 1/2 -38 1/2 . Putting overall was won by Sandra Toone 15 putts.
