Women’s teams playing match play for either the Captain or the President resulted in a win for the President’s team 5/0. On Monday 26 th November Apollo Bay women players were again successful, this time playing at Beeac. Jan Shaw, Vicki Hannah and Sandra Toone brought home the Joyce Simpkin Bowl. We are very proud of the members of our small club who travel to districts events and we congratulate them on their success.
On Monday 19 th November Apollo Bay player Stacey Thomas claimed the prestigious Rene Austin Brooch in Colac after scoring 89-18-71 to win. Congratulations Stacey! More exciting news from our small but passionate club – four of the women from Apollo Bay Golf Club who played at “The Sands” in Torquay on Friday 23 rd November in the South Western District Championships were successful. Faith Morrissy won the C grade Championship with 35 points, and Caroline Wren was runner-up with 32 points. Jill Fowler won B Grade South Western District Championship and Debbie Biggs won the best nett score in B Grade. Well done everyone!
Men’s stroke 4-weeker Championship. Apologies to Graham McKenzie, who won last week (not his son Craig). The winner this week in A Grade was Bernie Coller with 68 nett and runner-up, John Nankervis, on a count-back from Colin Coleman, scored 70 nett. Nearest the pins, second shot on the 7 th and 8 th holes was Richard Stone and on the 6 th hole it was Bernie Coller. In B Grade Bill Buckley won with 69 nett and Peter Forbes, on a count-back from Manuel Quintana had 71 nett. Bill Buckley and Peter Forbes were the most accurate with their second shots on the 7 th and 6 th holes respectively. The champion of the four-weeker competition, where only the winners of the season’s 4-week competitions were eligible to play in the “Don Wagstaff Cup” was Bernie Coller and the runner-up in this competition was Don O’Meara. Unfortunately we lost another golf club member this week, Doug Dalli. Vale Doug.

Round 2 of the Men’s Championships. Don O’Meara was the winner in A grade, scoring 65 nett, and a nearest the pin on 1 st /10 th . Don Wagstaff was runner-up with 67 nett and a nearest the pin on 9 th /18 th . In B grade, Ian Richardson was the winner with 63 nett and Ray Matthews was runner- up scoring 64 nett.
Women’s 27 hole day sponsored generously by Apollo Bay Bakery, who also sponsor the junior players on a Friday each week. The winner of the 27- hole nett event was Janice McKenzie with 96 nett and in B Grade this was won by Caroline Wren with 103½ nett. Janice and Caroline also won the putting event in their respective grades with 41 and 47 putts. The 27- hole gross event was won by Vicki Hannah in A grade, with 130 gross, whilst Faith Morrissy won B grade with 157 gross. 18 holes nett in A grade saw Dawn Thomas win with a 70 nett and in B grade Jeanette Dodds had a win with 75 nett. The yearly Medal of Medallist event was won by Janice McKenzie with 64 nett. The only player close to the pin was Norma Begely.
Men’s stroke 4-weeker final round. The winner was Craig McKenzie and Manuel Quintana was runner-up. Nearest the pin A Grade 1 st /10 th was Don Wagstaff and on 9 th /18 th Willy Kifotu and in B grade, Lance Thomas and Brian McKenzie were closest. The 4-week winners were Bernie Coller and Brian McKenzie with 189.
Women’s 9 holes stroke winner in A Grade was Janice McKenzie with 42-14-28. Runner-up A grade was Norma Begely 45-12½ -32½. In B grade, Caroline Wren was the winner 52-19½-32½, on a count-back from Cheryle Polgeest 49-16 ½ -32 ½. Putting overall was won by Dawn Thomas with 16 putts.

Week 1 competition winner in A grade was Don Wagstaff, nett 65 with Runner-up Geoff Vesey on a count-back from Darren Gill, 66. Nearest the pin 1 st /10 th A Grade was Bernie Coller and on 9 th /18 th Tim McClelland was nearest. B grade week 1 competition winner was Lance Thomas with 63 nett and runner-up Brian McKenzie with 65 nett. David Hand was nearest the pin on 1 st /10 th .
